Hue Universisty attends the Belgo-Vietnamese Rectors’ Mission 2015 - 10/11/2015
The Belgo-Vietnamese Rectors’ Mission 2015 was held in Belgium from 19 to 23 October 2015 in the attendance of over 100 participants and key leaders from Belgium and Vietnam. The delegation from Hue University includes Dr. Truong Quy Tung, Vice President of Hue University and Assoc. Prof. Hoang Huu Hanh, Director of Hue University Department of International Cooperation.

The collaboration between Belgian universities and Vietnamese partner institutions is of strategic importance with a wide variety of jointly activities in education and research.

Following the successful Belgian mission to Vietnam, coordinated by Ghent University in 2011, Ghent University and Can Tho University are co-organizing a week-long event in Belgium, starting with a symposium on 19 October, 2015. During the day of symposium, several workshops were organized to discuss past achievements and future challenges of the Belgo-Vietnamese cooperation.

Prof. Guido Van Huylenbroeck, Academic Director for Internationalization, Ghent University delivered the report on cooperative strategies and challenges in the future. The history of Belgo-Vietnamese cooperation was presented by Prof. Dr. Jan Cornelis, Vice Rector of VUB. The delegation from Hue University delivered a speech on the Vietnam’s role in regional cooperation within ASEAN and a report on Hue University’s international cooperation situation, outcomes and proposals.

Currently, Ghent University holds several bilateral agreements with Vietnamese institutions and coordinates 2 major VLIR-UOS projects with Hue University and Can Tho University respectively. The Lotus projects, educational projects with a focus on Asia Regional in the framework of the Erasmus Mundus Action 2 programme of the European Commission, have likewise contributed largely to the establishment and strengthening of the ties between European and Asian universities. Based on its experience in joint programmes, credit transfer and structured mobility, Ghent University will assist in the introduction of more internationally oriented programmes in Vietnam and thus enlarge not only its own capacity but also that of its Vietnamese partners.

There were bilateral meetings from 20 to 22 October, 2015 and a focused reflection on the mission’s key messages and conclusions was shown during a closing event (23 October), organised at the VLIR-UOS premises in Brussels.
