Development history

   

In March 1957, Hue University was initially established with 4 departments in Hue City, North Central Coast of Vietnam, known as The University of Hue. The birth of the University of Hue, the first higher education institution in Central Vietnam, 60 years ago marked a new step forward in the higher education system of Vietnam. Built upon the long-standing tradition of studiousness of the Central Vietnam residents, generations of lecturers and students have further highlighted historical landmarks in the ancient former capital.

 

In 1975, after the unification of the country, independent universities were established in Hue on the basis of the existing faculties of The University of Hue.

 

In April 1994, according to the Government Decree No. 30/ND-CP , Hue University was re-established by reorganizing all Hue-based universities.

 

Ever since, Hue University has been developing into a a system of 8 member universities, 2 faculties, one branch, 11 research and training institutes, centers and publishing house.

- University of Education, the alma mater of tens of thousands of teachers who have served in the education of Vietnam since the sixties of the twenty century.

- University of Sciences, a multi-disciplinary educational institution where scientific and creative talents are incubated. Currently, nearly 10 thousands of students are pursuing their study at the University of Sciences.

- University of Medicine has been asserting her position as an in-dept Medical hub of Central region and Central Highlands. Gamma Knife Center is the most modern center in SE Asia.

- University of Arts is currently one of the three biggest art educational institutions of the whole country.

- University of Agriculture and Forestry is not only the leading university in Vietnam in the number of researches in agriculture and forestry but also an active entrepreneurship one.

- University of Economics is well known for its dynamic learning environment. The University offers various choices of degree programs, including joint training programs with foreign universities.

- University of Foreign Languages is recognized by Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training as a regional language hub for the implementation of the national project entitled “Teaching and Learning Foreign Languages in the National Education System, Period 2008-2020”

- University of Law is the youngest training institution of Hue University providing undergraduate and postgraduate programs in legal field.

- School of Tourism and Hospitality located in the Vietnam Festival City, has a great many contributions to the success of the festivals.

- School of Physical Education provides physical training courses and activities to ten thousands of students each year.

- Quang Tri Campus established in 2003, aims to become a University of Engineering.

 

Currently, Hue University is a large non-profit public coeducational higher education institution, officially accredited and recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training, Vietnam. Hue University offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees.  Hue University has 119 undergraduate programs, 82 Master-degree programs, and 52 Doctoral degree ones, all of which are aimed to achieve the criteria of quality, autonomy, and integration.

 

The quality of the staff members of Hue University has incessantly increased. So far, Hue University has had 15 professors, 28 foreign honorary professors, 253 associate professors, 650 Doctors, 1,438 Masters, and 218 senior lecturers.

 

Hue University is responsible for training students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, conducting research and applying science and technology in a multitude of disciplines to serve the construction and development of the country in general and Central Vietnam and Western Highlands in particular. Annual enrolments are 13,000 students on average for 119 Bachelor programs, 82 Master programs, 52 Doctoral Programs in which 100 new students are expected to enroll in foreign, joint programmes, and 90 others in advanced programmes.
