HE. Mr. Craig Chittick, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam paid a working visit to Hue University (10-10-2016 16:53)

In the morning of October 6, HE. Mr. Craig Chittick, newly appointed Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, had a working meeting with the leadership of Hue University. Ms. Nadia Krivetz, political counselor and Ms. Kim Cleary, science and education counselor joined the delegation. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Toan, President of Hue University hosted the meeting.

 

Hue University currently offers 110 undergraduate training programs, 74 masters’, 44 doctoral, of which there are many joint training programs with foreign universities. Australia is a country which has many years of cooperation in various fields with Hue University. Specifically, Hue University has had many cooperation agreements with La Trobe University, Southern Cross University, Queensland University, Queensland University of Technology, University of South Australia, University of Sydney, University of Tasmania, etc. in developing advanced training programs, student mobility and internships. The member colleges of Hue University have had successful partnership with research centers, institutes, organizations and educational scholarship funds: Australian Centre For International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) to implement the project of capacity building in cattle production; Rotary Club of Prospect, Fred Hollows Foundation, AusAID, Endeavour, Mai Lan Kunzy scholarship fund, etc. to support human resource training in the field of medicine, etc.

 

 

At the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Toan, President of Hue University congratulated on Mr. Craig Chittick’s appointment and wished him success in his new duties in Vietnam and thanked Mr. Craig Chittick for accepting HU’s invitation to attend the celebrations of 60th anniversary of Hue University in March 2017. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Toan confirmed that international cooperation in the field of education and training is HU’s strategy in regional and international integration process. The HU president wished the Ambassador would promote cooperation between Hue University and Australian universities in the time to come, specifically joint training programs, scientific research, student mobility under New Colombo Plan, continue existing and open new areas of cooperation.

 

Mr. Craig Chittick said, according to the Australian Embassy’s statistical data, there have been 50 thousand of students pursuing their studies at Australia and returned to work in Vietnam, including many HU staff. These students have made a positive contribution to the effective and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries. In his mission, the Ambassador would give priority to human resources training, innovation, cooperation between research institutes, universities and enterprises of the two countries. In 2017, there will be 340 Australian university students to study and take internships in Vietnam in the framework of the New Colombo Plan in various fields, including business administration, education, health care, engineering, tourism, urban design and regional planning. The positive cooperation results in the recent years will be the driving force to further strengthen ties between the two countries.

 

After the meeting, the Ambassador visited Hue University Learning Resource Center and Hue University College of Medicine and Pharmacy.
