The Project “Joint capacity building in biomedical higher education through adopting international academic standards and transferring technology between European and Vietnam universities (EDUSHARE) was officially kicked off (30-11-2016 03:23)

On 28 NOVEMBER 2016, The Project “Joint capacity building in biomedical higher education through adopting international academic standards and transferring technology between European and Vietnam universities (EDUSHARE) was officially kicked off at Hue University - College of Medicine and Pharmacy (HU CoMP). Attending the ceremony, there are many senior officials, leaders of Vietnamese partners and 18 foreign professors and international partners. From Hue University, there came Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Quang Linh and Dr. Truong Quy Tung, Vice Presidents of Hue University.

 

The project Joint capacity building in biomedical higher education through adopting international academic standards and transferring technology between European and Vietnam universities (EDUSHARE) was approved and financed by EU Erasmus+. The Project duration is 05 years, from 2016 – 2021.

 

The project consortium was formed by many partners. From Europe, there are Tartu University (Estonia, as lead university), Ernst-Moritz-Arndt Universität Greifswald (Germany), Karolinska Institutet (Sweden), Stockholm (Sweden), University of Essex (UK), ScanBalt (Denmark) and Global HR Partner LLC, etc. From Vietnam, there are Hue University College of Medicine and Pharmacy (as the lead partner coordinating and organizing training and capacity building activities in Vietnam), Danang University of Medical Technology and Pharmacy, Hanoi Medical University, Hanoi University of Pharmacy and Dinh Tien Hoang Institute of Medicine.

 

The overall objective of the project is that with the help of European colleagues, Vietnamese universities will have the capacity to provide higher education and training to future healthcare professionals who contribute to improving the health of the local people with their high quality knowledge and skills and by that fill a significant gap in the labour market. The specific objectives are to: 1. capacity building and infrastructure upgrade for medical research in Vietnam through improvement of training in teaching skills and technology transfer and 2. Improvement of the quality of Vietnamese training centers and development of an advanced PhD program in biology.

 

The project coordinator Kadri Oja, Tartu University, said “We aim to assist Vietnamese universities providing higher education and training to future healthcare professionals who contribute to improving the health of the local people. Thereby the project will fill a significant gap in the Vietnamese labor market”.

 

Jaanus Pikani, Chairman of ScanBalt added “It is of strategic importance to strengthen collaboration with Vietnam for mutual benefits. We believe Vietnam will be an important partner for developing human and industrial competencies and opportunities”.

 

The aim of the project is to: 1. train a minimum of 50 lecturers and doctors from Hanoi, Hue, Danang who would instruct the healthcare professionals of the new generation, 2. develop an innovative doctoral program of molecular medicine for Vietnamese medical universities; 3. enrol 20 new PhD student majored in biomedicine, 4. complete a minimum of 02 researches; 5. develop collaboration between the businesses and researchers, partners.

 

The training program will be conducted at Hue University College of Medicine and Pharmacy and lectured by experts from European universities and research institutes. The project will be to train the trainers who already had experience to so that they will become trainers in future joint training programs together with international experts. Subclinical units of HU CoMP will also be equipped with modern machines and infrastructure to be qualified for the advanced training programs.

 

Right after the approval of the project, project partners agreed to organize project kick-off ceremony, which is the first official meeting of project partners, at HU CoMP. After the official project kick-off ceremony, international and Vietnam partners have various parallel sessions to discuss Project overview: objectives, expected outcomes and activities; Project management: legal, coordination and financial aspects, the contents and workplan of project, tasks for the partners in the 1st year of project, to agree upon accreditation, the overall curriculum, the modules, list of courses and competences required for each course,  and Network building with Laboratory based team and with Clinical based team.
