The President of Hue University visits Helsinki University, Finland (05-09-2024 11:10)

Within the framework of the project "Higher Education Cooperation for Forest Landscape Restoration and Sustainable Livelihoods in Bangladesh and Vietnam (FORSU)" funded by the European Education and Cultural Affairs Agency (EACEA), from August 26th to 30th, 2024, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Anh Phuong - President of Hue University and project members participated in the activity "Supporting North-South-South cooperation and exchange to improve the quality and capacity of teaching and training while promoting the regional and international staff exchange network in the field of forest landscape restoration" at the University of Helsinki, Finland.

In Finland, the President of Hue University worked with the Management Board and Executive Board on the progress and results of the implementation of the project “Strengthening Climate Change Education for Sustainable Development in Vietnam – CLIDEV” and “Higher Education Cooperation for Forest Landscape Restoration and Sustainable Livelihoods in Bangladesh and Vietnam – FORSU” at Hue University.

 

The CLIDEV project on Strengthening Climate Change Education for Sustainable Development in Myanmar and Vietnam is coordinated by the University of Helsinki and its partners are Laurea University of Applied Sciences (Finland); Yezin University of Agriculture and University of Forestry and Environmental Sciences (Myanmar); Hue University and Vietnam Forestry University (Vietnam). The project aims to empower more and more students with improved climate change knowledge and skills to make a positive contribution to the needs of society. During the 4-year project implementation, results were recorded at the final conference on August 12th-15th. The project helped improve links and relationships between partners; upgrade the curriculum; improve access to education by promoting open educational resources; provide tools and materials (IT, equipment upgrades) to support the implementation of project activities and integrate new tools and methods into the curriculum. The project outputs will help improve understanding of climate change, support evidence-based decision-making, increase the resilience of vulnerable communities; support partner countries in pursuing sustainable development paths.

 

The FORSU project aims to strengthen higher education institutions in Bangladesh and Vietnam, focusing on forest landscape restoration education that meets the needs of employers. The project offers a curriculum that blends engineering sciences and socio-economics and includes practical components such as fieldwork and laboratory research. The project objectives range from strengthening institutional partnerships between universities in Bangladesh, Vietnam and the EU to creating new interdisciplinary curricula; developing and upgrading undergraduate and master courses to better match national and regional needs.

 

The President of Hue University worked with Prof. Dr. Ritva Toivomen, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry - University of Helsinki and the Finnish Ministry of Education on staff exchange; scientific research; teaching, training of high-quality human resources; cooperation between the parties; promoting the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Hue University, University of Helsinki and the Finnish Ministry of Education.

On this occasion, FORSU project members were trained by experts from Helsinki University - Finland, Freiburg University - Germany on solutions to improve teaching quality and capacity, promote networking and exchange of student/staffs in the region and internationally.
