Hue University students respond to the contest Climate Change and Our Life (17-11-2017 10:27)

 

On the afternoon of November 13th, the Environment and Life Magazine in cooperation with Hue University organized a Gala to launch the Contest "Climate Change and Our Life" with the theme "Floods, Droughts and our Actions". Attending the Gala was Mr. Dinh Khac Dinh, Vice Chairman of Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee; Mr. Nguyen Van Toan, Editor-in-Chief of Environment and Life Magazine - Chairman of the Contest Organizing Committee; Dr. Truong Quy Tung, Vice President of Hue University; Representatives from the Provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Thua Thien Hue; Heads of affiliate universities and a large number of students.

 

 

The Gala launching the contest "Climate Change and Our Life" with the theme "Floods, Droughts and Our actions"

 

The contest "Climate Change and Our Life" with the theme "Floods, Droughts and Our Actions" is organized by the Environment and Life Magazine with the aim of raising knowledge and awareness of the severe impact of climate change, especially in the young generations, students, who are the future owners of the country.

  

Mr. Nguyen Van Toan - Editor-in-Chief of the Environment and Life Magazine, Chairman of the Organizing Committee said: "Thua Thien Hue is one of the provinces in the Central of Vietnam which is experiencing negative impacts of climate change, specially more frequent floods. In addition, Hue University has a large student population with nearly 50,000 students from 8 member universities, 2 schools, 1 campus and 11 affiliate units. Those are the reason why the Contest Organizing Committee selected Hue University to organize the Gala and believe that Hue University's students will be the main force to spread the message about climate change to the community". Mr. Nguyen Van Toan also added that apart from valuable prizes, the Contest Organizing Committee in cooperation with scientists, departments, and agencies will support the owners of the ideas, models and initiatives which are practical, to develop and apply in real life.

  

Mr. Dinh Khac Dinh - Vice Chairman of Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee - said that the contest Climate Change and Our Life with the theme Floods, Droughts and Our actions is a great idea and a meaningful program, calling on the community to protect the environment, to protect the earth and to protect our lives from climate change.

 

Also at the gala, Dr. Truong Quy Tung, Vice President of Hue University, said that Hue University is honored to be selected by the contest organizing committee to launch the contest in the Central region, where the impacts of severe natural disasters are fully recognized. The Vice President of Hue University urged students of Hue University to actively participate in the contest and to become the key persons to inform and raise awareness of their families and communities.

 

Especially, a charity fund raising event "Join hands in response to climate change" was organized to share difficulties with the people affected by climate change such as floods, droughts.

 

Before the ceremony, from 2pm to 3pm, Thua Thien Hue province leaders, Contest Organization Committee, leaders of Hue University and of member schools and tens of students rode bycicles around the city to raise awareness of the community of climate change.
