The VLIR-IUC University Cooperation Program, implemented by VLIR-UOS, has selected Hue University as a collaborative partner for over 10 years, divided into two phases: Phase 1 from 2013 to 2018 and Phase 2 from 2019 to 2022. The total budget for the program is EUR 2.1 million. The Institutional University Cooperation programme with Hue University (HU) was officially launched in June 2013, in the presence of Belgian and Vietnamese stakeholders. Besides the support to the institutional management of Hue University, the programme has contributed to the regional and national development of Vietnam, by research on livestock, aquaculture, crop production, ecosystems and rural health development. The programme comprises 4 sub-projects: Project 1- Institutional strengthening; Project 2 – Developing and Improving sustainable aquaculture, livestock production; Project 3 – Preservation of the coastal ecosystems and natural resources; Project 4: Strengthening training and services at primary level to improve rural health care.
VLIR-IUC has been a very successful programme that helps Hue University enhance capacity building, supporting PhD training, boosting research activities. The programme has helped Hue University strengthen our capacities in terms of university governance; joint research in aquaculture, environmental science, and health care; and human resource enhancement. The success of the programme has also made a great contribution to Hue University on its path toward a national university of Vietnam.
Following this program, the relationship between the Kingdom of Belgium and Hue University will be strengthened and continued through the Structural International Partnership Agreement and the Ph.D. Training Program.
