Collaboration between Hue University and U.S. universities in semiconductor workforce development (14-11-2023 09:09)

On November 6, 2023, Assoc. Prof. Le Anh Phuong, Hue University President, had an official meeting with Ms. Susan Burns, the U.S. Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City.

At the meeting, the U.S. Consul General mentioned that during the state visit to Hanoi, President Biden and General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong elevated U.S.-Vietnam relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, emphasizing cooperation for common goals of peace, prosperity, and sustainable development. The U.S. introduced initiatives, including a new semiconductor partnership, recognizing Vietnam's potential in establishing sustainable and flexible semiconductor supply chains. The Consul General hopes to bridge U.S. universities with Hue University, especially in developing the semiconductor workforce. To boost the semiconductor industry, connections with U.S. businesses are sought to enhance students' skills.

President Le Anh Phuong emphasized Hue University's training capacity for semiconductor workforce development, particularly in microchip design, which has been taught for many years. Graduates from these fields find employment in the semiconductor-microchip industry, with a placement rate of 40%-50%. Collaboration with major chip design enterprises involves training support, specific software assistance, and opportunities for internships and employment. The university aims to continue information sharing and develop collaborative directions in semiconductor workforce training with U.S. universities. Additionally, support from the U.S. Consulate General in HCMC is hoped for university management projects, healthcare workforce enhancement, and English language instruction at Hue University
