Prof. Sir John Ball and Prof. Ngo Bao Chau giving lectures at Hue University

In the afternoon of 15 August 2016, Hue University invited Prof. Sir John Ball and Prof. Ngo Bao Chau to give lectures on mathematics. This activity was to promote research and teaching Mathematics in Hue and cooperation between Hue University and the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM).
The topic of Prof. Sir John Ball's lecture was “The story of Perelman and the Poincaré conjecture”. The topic of Prof. Ngo Bao Chau's lecture was “On the history of the last Fermat theorem". The two lectures attracted hundreds of students, mathematics teachers from various universities, high schools and junior high schools in Hue City.
Prof. Sir John Ball is Sedleian Professor of Natural Philosophy - University of Oxford. He was a member of the first Abel Prize in 2002 and for the Fields Medal in 1998. He was knighted in the New Year Honours list for 2006 "for services to Science". He is listed as an ISI highly cited researcher.
Prof. Ngo Bao Chau, scientific director at VIASM, Professor at Mathematics Faculty - University of Chicago, USA. He was awarded the Fields Prize in 2010.
