Attending the workshop opening ceremony were Prof. Nguyen Van Toan, President of Hue University, Chairman of the program; Prof. Cao Ngoc Thanh, Rector of the College of Medicine and Pharmacy - Hue University; Prof. Anselme Derese, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences - Ghent University, Belgium; Dr. Jeffrey Markuns, Faculty of Family Medicine - Boston University, USA.

At the seminar, Prof. Anselme Derese had a presentation on “skillslab training in undergraduate medical education”. In his opinion, it is necessary to start skillslab education early, right from the 1st year, so that students can acquire in parallel theoretical knowledge, clinical reasoning and clinical and communicative skills; can better understand the structure and functioning of the human body when working with living persons; and can gain confidence in working with patients.

It is the interest of the College of Medicine and Pharmacy - Hue University to create favorable conditions for its students to practise clinical skills. The college is interested in skills training, practising on models, practising with simulated patients and practising in standardized settings. However, to make a reform in medical education, there still exist limitations of infrastructure and human resource. The workshop is an opportunity for staff and faculty of the college to have an overview of the new method of training and treatment through reports of the professors from Ghent University and Boston University: how to set up a skillslab curriculum in undergraduate medical education; how to choose a topic/skill and work it out for a skillslab session; how to train the SIP, how to make a scenario; evaluation tools, etc.
