Opening the first Training Course on Speech Therapy in Vietnam Central Coast and Central Highlands (26-07-2016 11:03)

In the morning of 18.07.2016, College of Medicine and Pharmacy - Hue University held the opening ceremony of the training course on Speech Therapy, the first in Vietnam Central Coast and Central Highlands with the financial support from Korea International Cooperation Agency KOICA and technical support from Chonbuk National University.

 

Attending the opening ceremony, on the Thua Thien Hue province, Mr. Le Dinh Khanh - Deputy Director, Department of Planning and Investment; Mrs. Doan Minh Xuan - Deputy Director, Rehabilitation Hospital; Mr. Dinh Huu An - Association of Disabled People; Mr. Nguyen Vu Quoc Huy - Deputy Rector, College of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University and other college leaders and 28 admitted students. On the Korean side, Prof. Shin Hyo Keun - former Vice Chancellor and Prof. Kim Hyun Gi - Course Manager from Chonbuk National University; Mr. Jung Dong Jo - Director of King Sejong Center in Hue; Prof. Sook Shin Ho and Ms. Hong Seung Yeun - Koreas National Research Foundation; Ms. Choi Yunil - Manager, Nursing Project at College of Medicine and Pharmacy, Cheju Halla University; Prof. Tadashi Yamamoto - Toyahashi Municipal Hospital.

 

Common forms of communication and swallowing disorders are speech disorders, stuttering, autism, language disorders after brain injury, etc. The ratio of about 1/7 of the population in the developing countries has communication and swallowing problems. In Vietnam, it is estimated that there are more than 13 million of patients. There are a few of centers and speech therapists in Vietnam located in 02 big cities, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Patients from other regions have limited access to treatment. This short-term training course aims to meet the needs of training on speech therapy and of establishment of treatment facilities in Vietnam.

 

28 students were admitted into the first course. The course participants will be sent to various treatment units in Korea, Hanoi, and Saigon for internship. This short-term training course is the first step toward long-term training programs and a modern speech therapy center at Hue University Hospital.
