German Ambassador to Vietnam Christian Berger paid a 2-day working visit to Hue University (20-09-2018 16:47)

 

On September 18, 2018, Vice President Do Thi Xuan Dung of Hue University welcomed and had a working meeting with German Ambassador to Vietnam Christian Berger and Mr. Stefan Hase Bergen – Head of Representative Office of German Academic Exchange Agency - DAAD in Hanoi.

Hue University and many German organizations and universities have together implemented various cooperation programs and projects. Specifically, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University has 20 years of cooperation with German-Vietnamese Association of Cardiology; More than 30 lecturers of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University graduated from short courses and fulltime training programs in Germany. The University of Medicine and Pharmacy has also implemented a number of collaborative projects funded by German Academic Exchange Agency-DAAD. Many officers and lecturers from other member universities such as the University of Agriculture and Forestry and University of Sciences pursued their postgraduate studies thanks to DAAD scholarships and returned to Vietnam to teach, do research and act as bridges for further cooperation development. These staffs are highly regarded by the universities.

 

The University of Foreign Languages, since the second visit of the Ambassador and delegation in October 2017, with the aim of developing a German language unit, sent two staff to study German at Germany and they returned upon completion. Through cooperation activities with the Goethe Institut, the University of Foreign Languages has organised book exchange and meaningful cultural exchanges.

 

 

At the meeting at Hue University, Ambassador Christian Berger paid special attention to the fields of culture, health, education and capacity building in recent years and highly appreciated the results achieved in the cooperation with Hue University. The ambassador expects the two sides to accelerate the establishment of the German language unit at University of Foreign Languages, Hue University. The Ambassador stressed that the first thing to do is to establish a team of German teachers at Hue University. Dr. Do Thi Xuan Dung, Vice President of Hue University, affirmed that Hue University wished to continue developing its cooperation with Germany. First of all, Hue University wished to speed up the establishment of the German language unit at the University of Foreign Affairs. Hue University would provide maximum support in selecting, training and sending staff to attend training programs in German, as the foundation for the construction of the German language unit in the future. In the meantime, Hue University will build connections and expand friendship and cooperation through alumni and German language students in Hue City.

 

In addition, the two sides shared concerns and experiences on university autonomy in Vietnam and Hue University's autonomy procedure. On the same day, Ambassador Christian Berger visited and worked with the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, University of Foreign Languages. On September 19, the Ambassador visited and worked with University of Agriculture and Forestry and University of Sciences.

 

At the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Vietnam had souvenir photo taken at the plumeria planted by himself in February 2017.

 

Dr. Bao Kham, Rector of the University of Foreign Languages, Hue University, welcomed and worked with German Ambassador to Vietnam Christian Berger, looking forward to accelerating the establishment of German language training unit and staff capacity building in Germany; popularizing German language and culture in Hue City in general and Hue University in particular; opening a German cultural corner at the University of Foreign Languages, Hue University.
