The contest was organized by the Central Committees of Vietnam Youth Union and Vietnam Students' Association to create a useful and interesting playground for female university and college students to demonstrate their youthful, modern, dynamic lifestyle but elegant, charming, compassionate characteristics of traditional Vietnamese women. From August to December 2018, preliminary rounds and events "My university is No.1" took place at 40 places in 12 provinces and cities nationwide with the participation of 1109 contestants.

At the final round, there were 5 contestants from Hue University. Among the five contestants, Nguyen Thi Phuong Lan, a student of the University of Law, Hue University has successfully competed and became Miss Vietnam Student 2018 with the Crown, Certificate and prize worth 200 million VND. Especially, Nguyen Thi Phuong Lan and 2 runners-up will to participate in the Journey Youth for homeland's ocean and island organised by the Central Committee of Communist Youth Union to visit leaders, soldiers and inhabitants of Truong Sa island in 2019.
