Interim workshop for the FLC 09-04 project : community-based adaptation to climate change and policy linkages in thua thien hue province (30-06-2010 14:42)

To assess the results of the first year implementation, on June 17, 2010, the Institute of Resources, Environment and Biotechnology (IREB), Hue University organized an interim workshop for the FLC 09-04 project Community-based adaptation to climate change and policy linkages in Thua Thien Hue province" funded by the Embassy of Finland

Attending the workshop were Mr. Max von Bonsdorff, Head of Development Cooperation Group of the Embassy of Finland to Vietnam, Ms. Le Thi Phuong Thao, Representative of the Embassy of Finland to Vietnam, Dr. Nguyen Huu Ninh, Chairman of Scientific Council, Center for Environmental Research, Education and Development (CERED), Prof. Dang Trung Thuan, Chairman of Vietnam Association of Geochemistry (VAG), stakeholders in Thua Thien Hue province and leaders of the project sites in Huong Phong commune, Huong Tra district and Quang Thanh commune, Quang Dien district.
 The workshop reported general results achieved and lessons learned in the first year of project implementation, results of basic research, and livelihood models adaptive to climate change for the two communes Huong Phong and Quang Thanh along with implementation plans for the next period. It also received feedbacks from representatives of local authorities at communal and provincial levels, and the project beneficiary households.
 After one year of implementation, the project FLC 09-04 has achieved certain successes, including carrying out basic and advanced research at the project site; assessing vulnerability and climate change impacts on livelihoods of the local communes; organizing training classes on aquaculture technique adaptive to climate change; implementing livelihood development models adaptive to climate change for local people (aquaculture model adaptive to climate change, vegetable growing model adaptive to climate change and some solutions to deal with environmental risks before rainy and flood season). 
 On behalf of the Embassy of Finland, Mr. Max von Bonsdorff highly appreciated the results obtained after one year of implementation, especially in terms of the research information provided by the project. He affirmed that these results will set a good base for the implementation of phase 2 (July, 2010- une, 2011).
 In addition, the workshop also received comments and suggestions for the project FLC 09-04 from most of the participants.
