Institute of Music is established according to Decision number 1492/QĐ-TTg on November 8th, 2007 made by the Prime Minister. The foundation has its basis of the re-construction of Music Faculties and Sections of College of Arts – Hue University, Faculty of Music of Culture and Arts Secondary School of Thua Thien Hue, and a number of cultural and musical research, training, and performance units in Hue Province.

At the ceremony, Assoc.Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Toan, President of Hue University on the authority of Minister of Education and Training, and on behalf of Ministry of Sports and Tourism, Assoc.Prof. Dr. Bui Van Tien – Head of Training Department, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism signed the report of handing-over such units as personnel organization, training, scientific research, material facilities and finance sections, etc.
