Improved cooperative relationship with the University of Virginia (13-11-2010 11:51)

Upon the invitation of University of Virginia President, USA, Hue University's delegation headed by President Nguyen Van Toan, together with the Director of its Office for International Cooperation, Vice Rector, and Head of Office for Assessment and Quality Assurance of College of Education visited UVA and its member units from November 1 to November 7, 2010

 

Prof. Leonard Sandridge, UVA Executive Vice President, cordially received the delegation. Both sides discussed the results gained and future cooperation possibilities.

The delegation also had a meeting with the UVA Assistant Provost and International Cooperation Manager to reaffirm specific cooperative activities, especially mutual student exchange.

On this occasion, the delegation took chance to work with Mr. Mark Crowell, Executive Director and Associate Vice President for Innovation Partnerships and Commercialization. This field of research is considered fresh at US universities, heading towards a close connection between higher education and industry sector in science and technology. Both sides discussed some issues of common interest like technology transfer, intellectual property and research. President Nguyen Van Toan invited Mr. Crowell to make a visit to Hue University toadvise further onthe above issues, laying a foundation forjoint research into the relationship ofhigher education, industry, and intellectual property.

The meeting with Curry School of Education, Medical School and Department of Physics, College of Art and Science also brought good results.

At Curry School of Education, Hue University delegation had a talk with the School leaders on cooperative measures of academic staff training, updated methodology and faculty exchange with Hue University College of Education. The delegation attended the presentation on the new teaching technology being developed at School.

 Working with the Department of Physics, President Nguyen Van Toan showed his gratitude to the Department and College of Arts and Sciencesfor supporting Hue University to deploy the joint program in Advanced Physics at its College of Education. Two universities agreed to develop current relationship, especially in exchanging lecturers.

At the meeting with Medical School, both sides agreed to promote joint research relating to common issues, especially tropical diseases.

With this successful visit to UVA, two universities reached specific results that will be impetus to wide and deep cooperative future. The trip was characterized by the contribution of Prof Pham Quang Hung, honorary professor of Hue University, who helped to develop the relationship between University of Virginia and Hue University from the beginning.
